Using SIEMENS F-PLC in ESD and F&G Systems (Safety Critical Applications)

a.taghizadeh Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I have a question.Can I use SIEMENS F-PLC in ESD and F&G Systems (Safety Critical Applications)? There are a lot of HIMA systems for this applications in my country, but I am a big admire of SIEMENS F-PLC. So is it possible to use SIEMENS F-PLC instead of HIMA? Please give me some source and advise for change my boss mind to use SIEMENS F-PLC...

Yoga Shankar Posts: 288 Rating: (22)	Dear taghizadeh You can use the Siemens F Cpus of the S7 300 series or the more advanced F/H CPU's of the S7 400 series for these applications. With F/H Cpu's you can also have the powerful PCS7 system which gives you much more diagnostics and process control features in the form of standard libraries. the F-Library will give you all that is needed to program the ESD and F&G systems. you can also search for the manuals on this same site. Please search under the topics PCS7 and Failsafe systems headings. But please bear in mind that these systems are FMR by design. If TMR functionality is required, it will have to be implemeted in the code. The required blocks are available in the F-Library. hope this helps

JCrox Regular Member Joined: 4/29/2007 Last visit: 3/15/2021 Posts: 26 Rating: (1)	Hello, It is important to make one distinction here: For F&G use the F-Library rather than Distributed Safety. The FLibrary supports Safety Matrix which I also think you would find very useful. Most importantly, the F-Library supports online chages to the safety system with re-activation of the safety program whereas Distributed Safety does not. Distributed Safety requires the PLC to be reloaded with the entire, recompiled, safety program (restart) after each modification in order that the safety program runs with the original saftey checking activated. Broadly speaking Distributed Safety is desinged for machine guarding etc and F-Library is biassed towards process control industry. If you are going down the F-Library path it more all less drives you to use PCS 7. Though CFC and WinCC would work you're probably likely to miss out on more functionality than it is worth as a result of any cost saving.
