Using Simatic OPC server to communicate with multiple PLC's

kapilkk Posts: 17 Rating: (1)	Hi, I wish to communicate with multiple PLC's ( S7-300 series) using OPC server from the PC. I am able to configure single connection and communicate to PLC using VB application.I create a Step-7 project with a PC station and import the .XDB file to station configuration editor. I use OPC SCOUT to define connections and then can access PLC data from VB application using ocx. How to create a project to define multiple PLC's connection, how to import it to Station Configurator? Is this possible? How? Thanks and Regards, Kapil.

Ates Posts: 198 Rating: (16)	you can easily create multiple connections.. if pc station and other cpus are in the same project then create 1 or more connections with netpro selecting defined cpu or if cpus are in other projects which you dont have or dont know.. you can again create a connection with unspecified partner connection and entering ip or mac address of it.. in netpro and you can again export import xdb file. so in netpro just insert more then 1 connections in programming site you need to use connection name like s7_conn_1 s7_conn_2 + tag name there... in scout you cancreate groups when adding items you need to see all connections under where you created them (like under s7tab)

kapilkk Posts: 17 Rating: (1)	If I am getting you correctly, I have to define another PC station in my Step7 project and define connection to the second PLC. If not please correct me. I can create additional PC station in Step7 project, howeverthe same IP address(i.e. my PC address)canot be assignedto the IE general component. This configuration does not compile.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Hello, you can not configure a second PC Station with the same IP on the Same network. You have to configure the second connection in the same PC Station you already have... you may configure several Connections, also unspecified Connections, with several Partners at the same time. Please keep your single PC Station and configure as many Connections as you need... but be aware that you may need another license, if you have only a Lean License. Best regards J_Bell

I do not have any licence installed right now here. It is working with the Simatic Net lean demo licence. So I think Siematic Net OPC Server Lean licence should be OK for my application.
