Using Timer inside FB in S7-1200

Tala Posts: 20 Rating: (0)	Dear Experts, I have to use a TON timer inside the FB, and then I have to call the FB instance several times in OB1, I am trying to connect the Timer Instance DB with the input pin of FB to define the "IEC_Timer_x" on the FB Input. But its not showing the Tag of Input Pin which is defined as a IEC_Timer. I Want the same thing a s we do in s7-300, we normally call the TON timer inside the FB and dont give the Timer number inside the FB, instead of giving the timer number we connect it with th FB Input pin with data type "Timer", and when we call the Instance of that FB in OB1 we assign the Timer number on the Pin, I wan to do the same here in S7-1200, please advise Thank You

To do this type of thing, I had to redesign my logic to work with S7-1200 requirements. With V11, I have not tried to do this, but in 10.5, I had to create multi-calledchunks of logic(without timers) and put them into FBs. If there were timers needed, I'd have to have a supervisory type OB/FC run the FBs and accumulate the timer values. As you've come from aS7-300 background, I am guessing you know more about S7 than me and may get it to work with a little additional thought. S7-1200 and TIA Portal is fairly restrictive in parameters, though with V11, pointers and variants and indexed variables and more complex DB structures are possible.

I strongly suspect it is not possible in latest pro version either.

Denilson Pegaia Platinum Expert Joined: 9/23/2005 Last visit: 12/4/2023 Posts: 4281 Rating: (1378)	Hi, the use of T1, T2, T3 etc. in S7 V5 is fundamently to mantain a compatiblity with old products (S5). S7 V5 has also the possibility to use SFB to implement sw based timers (there is a lot of posts in the forum that talking about it...). With sw based timers, is not possible to specify the timer (T1, T2, etc.) in the block call (evem in S7 V5). But you can build multiinstace call of the timers. S7 V11 has just software based timers, so the better way is to use the recurses of then (multiinstace calls).
