i've just installed Tia 17 upd4 and the "109746530_Unified_Comfort_Panel_Images_V17_0_Upd_4.exe"

When i try to change panel version on my project i can choose between 17.0.0.0 and 17.0.0.1

why??

I noticed the same, the response from Siemens when I raised a support request was as follows:

As of Update 2 and on no new device versions are made available in the Engineering System with newer update. So, V17.0.0.1 is the latest one in the catalogue. The recent updates include functionality improvement. So, even with installing of Update4, only V17.0.0.0 and V17.0.0.1 are available in the product catalogue list.

If you try to install the same version of image which is already installed on your PC , fatal error will happen. Installation of different update version will not cause fatal error.

So you can only ever select V17.0.0.1 for the HMI in TIA Portal but if you update the physical panels firmware either via USB or OTA it will be V17.0.0.4.

This means that when you download to the HMI you get a warning that the versions are mismatching but apparently it doesn't matter. Just confusing.

As a result of my support request an 'Important Note' was added next to the Update 4 panel image on the following page:
