The company I work with produces at different locations all over the world.

All the machines (starting a few years back) are fitted with OpenVPN-routers.

While It's possible to connect to S7 -1200s and 1500s over the network (strangely only if i connect to my VPN in the host machine, then pass the connection through to the VM where TIA's running via NAT) the HMI is nowhere to be found.

I can ping it, I can ping the router and the PLC, connect to the latter two, but the HMI's not accessible.

Have any of you had such a problem and (hopefully) a solution as well?

Yes it does. It's active as well (already was when I first tried too), but using it seems to entangle installing another lil' helper that I theoretically shouldn't need.

I was actually hoping to use the same method for the HMI as for the other components in the network: the already active VPN connection with the current setup by which I can access at least PLCs, Routers and PCs just fine, but which, with Sm@rtServer on as well as off it just doesn't seem to work with the HMI
