W780 Application

joedub Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hello all, I am completely new to the Scalance wireless world. I am trying to figure what I need for my application. I simply want to have a PLC connected to a W-784 or W-788. I want to distribute this to multiple (2) clients with one device connected at each client. Does it make more sense to use multiple access points or stick with one access point and multiple (2) clients? Also, will there be any issue with sending a protocol such as EtherNet/IP over the wireless network. I would be using an IGMP Snooping switch at the access point. Thank you for any support.

About the WLAN normally 2 clients is no problem at all. Especially since Ethernet/IP doesn't asks for much bandwidth and isn't as fast as ProfiNet is. But it mostly depends on where your clioents are located. Are they at a short (omni-directional antenna could do the trick) or long range (maybe a directional antenna is neccesary) from the Access Point, are they on the same side (if long range and directional antenna this is important)? ANd then it depends on what kind af area the modules are installed. Does it need IP65? Then you think about using W788-1PRO or W786-1 as Access Point and as client you could use the W746-1PRO (more functionality then the W744-1PRO like more then 1 ethernet node which can be connected on the wired port). If IP30 is enough you can use the W784-1 and the W746-1. With the W786, the W784-1 and the W746-1 you need additional antennas with the W788-1PRO and the W746-1PRO omni directional (diversity) antennas comes with the device.

joedub Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the response INS, If Siemens, yes the I would use a scalance 300 or up. However, I am working with an OEM and he may choose an AB encompass like a Hirschmann or Ntron. I will certainly recommend the Scalance. I believe the included omni's will do the job - short distance to work with. My concern was more about how the WAP's and clients work together. So, from what you are saying, having one W-784 or 788 and two W-744 or 746's would be no problem. Everything is web-based, so I'm assuming no additional software is needed. Other than remote antennas with extension cables, does this sound like a reasonable solution to you? Thanks again for the response.

Just keep in mind the bandwidth needed for your application and if that's suitable there is no problem at all. And yes it's webbased. You only need the Primary Setp Tool once to set teh IP-Address of the devices because they come without an IP-address if they are fresh! Download: Primary Setup Tool v3.2

I don't think it's possible to use BootP functions to set the IP-parameters because the PST-Tool is very easy to use you don't need anything else.
