Hint1:
Look at all the attributes that you can set on an HMI tag.

Hint2:
1) Open the HMI tags
2) Select a tag
3) Open the bottom drawer marked as properties.
4) Special focus to "range".

That value will be discarded.

The tag will have it's old value.

Added -

The IO field changes to a warning colour if the value in the IO field is not in the range. This could happen when for example a new recipe is opened that is not sourced with values yet.

Newer models of the HMIs indicates what the limit range is. This range is shown on the keypad. An illegal value cannot be entered (as Mr. Wizard mentioned).
