What is a "Bit Number"

RMueller Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Im having an issue implementing a text list in my HMI using the basic V10.5 I have read the documentation in help and found it to be lacking: i have a specific question about the documentation about step7 basoc v10.5 1 - What is a "Bit Number", do they mean integer? Or does it have to be 0 to 9 (not 0-31 as indicated)? [schnippschnapp] other questions are in the following threads S7-1200 Text lists not working?. "Visible Entries" is no where to be found, where is it?. "Apply value on exit" is no where to be found, where is it?.

0_Einstein Diamond Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 1/13/2025 Posts: 15531 Rating: (2465)	If you are setting alarms, or somehow managing your message triggers based on the bit values of a 16-bit INT, bit 0 means the INT value is 1. Bit 1 is INT value of 2 BIt 2 is INT value of 4 ... This only allows bit 0..31 alarms (32). It does however allow multiple simultaneous alarms. If you want more alarms, and only want one at a time, you can set a message or alarm # and use all values. Then you don't use the BIT values for your selectors. If you use a BOOL tag, the bit value is always 0. There is plenty of documentation with the software to describe this as well as sample screens which show how it works, much better than I could try to describe.
