what is different in profibus terminator and connector?

I have 2 questions (1)I configure a profibus network(1.5M bps and less than 200m) including 1 master and 5 slaves,and no terminator in final,if the final slave no power,all slave will die or not? (2)I configure a profibus network(1.5M bps and less than 200m) including 1 master and 5 slaves,anda terminator in final,if theterminator no power,all slave will die or not? Best Regards Buzz LightYear Hello Buzz; You are asking a very important question, that is basic to all Profibus network design. However both the cases you describe will have the same effect on your 1,5 MB network, I am afraid. It might just crash. For a termination resistor to work (eliminating reflexions at each end of the bus) it must be set ( for example, the integrated terminator switch on Profibus connectors) and it must be powered. Power (5 V DC) must be applied to the resistor circuit either from the Profibus connector pins (therefore from the module it is connected to, CPU or IM)or from an external source (such as is the case with an external; termination module). If power is not available to the termination circuit, for example if you disconnect the last node in the network for maintenance, reflexions will appear on the network. Each node on a RS-485 network should have exclusive access to the bus when they have the right to talk; with reflexions present theywill see other messages transiting, or the messages recieved will be garbled by the reflexions. In either case, you risk that the network will crash, and the master's diagnostics be full of garbage. Attached you will find one FAQ (from a Profibus.com source) discussing the same issue.
