A high speed counter is a hardware based counter to capture the state of your inputs. It is used when you have inputs that are switched at such a high speed that the program cycle scan would be too slow. Some of the digital inputs can be configured for high speed and how many and which inputs depend on your hardware. After you configure the inputs as HSC and download the configuration to the hardware a hardware counter counts the Ons of the inputs independent of your program and you can use those values in your program in whichever way you like. for example, you can also configure a hardware interrupt to be triggered when the counter reaches a certain value. A common use for a highs speed counter is an encoder that one would use in application to measure or monitor speed, usually of a motor, and/or for positioning. Best way to learn about high speed counter is to download an application example from siemens site and have a look at it There are plenty of them. |

Hello Sharon Joy. Added is a rough definition, which is now redundant with all the fine answers already given. There are important information in the manual of the PLC that is essential reading for clearing up specific details. Notice also that there are big differences between the generations of processors. A more detailed description of what you have, might be followed with application specific hints. Regards. AttachmentHSC.txt (424 Downloads) |
