Btw what is the difference between Industrial Ethernet (IE) and ProfiNet?

As I understand it Industrial Ethernet is a standard with a lot of protocols under like ProfiNet. So Industrial Ethernet is just a designation of ProfiNet.

In Short form:
PROFINET based on Ethernet, but without IP Layer. To reach Realtime, Profinet has no Layer 3, which makes PROFINET not routable.

So in a cyclic PROFINET communication, you do not need ip addresses. Only for acyclic such diagnostic.

Profinet is one of those industrial communication protocols. We can see that Profinet is part of IE, IE is the whole available communications between industrial machines except ethernet itself.
