What will be the impact if the configure firmware and hardware firmware version of CPU are different

how come Posts: 382 Rating: (47)	Dear all, Does anyone know what will be the impact for the following 2 cases:- 1] configure CPU firmware in step7 is lowerthanthe firmware version of the physical CPU. 2] configure CPU firmware in step7 is higherthanthe firmware version of the physical CPU. In both cases, while during downloading, step7 will prompt that bothoffline and online firmwares versionare dirfferent [see attach file]. However, if I choose to continue and after downloading, the CPU will not goes into SF or BF. Its in run mode without any fault and the program still able to execute properly. I would like to know what aretheimpacts for the above 2 cases? or can just leave it. Appreciateanswers from anyone. Thanks in advance! with regards, how come? Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	Well, Siemens doesn't produce non-working firmware :^)))))))))))))) Of course it should work without errors, because firmware update USUALLY fixes bugs in very specific situation or adds functionality. So if your programms doesn't face situations mentioned - it would work properly.

how come Posts: 382 Rating: (47)	Dear Aret, Thank for your reply!If I understand you correctly,can I say that if I configure my CPU to V2.6 in step7 hardware configuration and in future if siemens upgrade the CPU firmware version to 3.0, it is not neccessary for me to change to match it right? and I can still choose to download and should work properly? And ifwith my configure CPU to firmware V2.6, I can also choose to download to CPU with firmware version 2.0 and should still work right? Thanks, with regards, how come?

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	Even if Siemens makes new FW version (for example 2.6) - your CPU will have it's own version (for example 2.0) - you can download blocks without any problems (in 99.9% cases). So you can just keep it or update - as you wish. If you want to copy project (blocks+HW) from 2.0 to 2.6 with 95% it would work. But it's better to change HW in HW konfig tool in this case. As for additional features - for example you won't be able to change FW without card if your CPU is version 2.0, but you would have this ability if it's V2.6+.
