Which CP

I'll have an application where will be connected more that 10x S7-400 with CP (6GK7443-1EX11-0XE0) to the IE and I don't which CP I need to PC. This PC will be serve for monitoring of processes. I found CP1612 (PCI card) but I'm sure if it's right CP for this. I would like to use S7 communication. Or is better to use another type of communication? Which licence I'll need? Could somebody help me? Thanks a lot.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well this is not such a tough question to answer. You have two choices. 1. The CP 1612 or any other Ethernet NIC in your PC. The CP 1612 is discontinued as far as I know, so you have to use a Ethernet NIC, e.g. 3COM 905 to work with SOFNET S7 for Industrial Ethernet, there you need theAdvanced version, because you need more than 8 Connections. 2. If you want to have some preprocessing on the CP in yourPC and you want to relive the PC CPU, even so they are very strong right now, fromcommunication work... than you can use the CP 1613 with S7 1613. These are the two choices you have. I personally would say... today it is a matter of preference. Best regards J_Bell

Ates Posts: 198 Rating: (17)	hi j_bell, can you tell me the thing about 8 connections... if we have more then 8 connections cant we use normal onboard ethertnet cards ? and i can understand the difference of 1613 but what is different about 3COM 905 ? does it have something special ? i remember old times cnet cards has got sub-d socket so we could use them with ssv's but now do they have something speacial ? thanks

SOFTNET S7 for industrial Ethernet has two levels, the Lean (for up to 8 Connections) and the Standard Version (for up to 64 Connections, I miscalled it with Advanced). About the difference between the CP 1613 and a usual NIC it can be said: The difference to the CP 1613 is that the CP 1613 has a single CPU on Board for preprocessing. It is able to handle up to 120 Connections by itself. So you can reach more Stations with one CP. Additionally you can plug more than one CP in the PC, so you can reach up to 207 Connectionson yourPC. Needless to say that the CP relieves the PC CPU from some work, so you may have more performance to spend on HMI Software... for example. Best regards J_Bell
