This service is possible via MPI, Profibus, and Industrial Ethernet subnets. OP communication provides functions you require for operator control and monitoring. These functions are integrated in the operating system of SIMATIC S7 modules. Technical data of CPU 312C (no model -2DP available) Number of connections: Max. 6 Can be used for · PG communication Max. 5 – Reserved (default) 1 – Configurable from 1 to 5 · OP communication Max. 5 – Reserved (default) 1 – Configurable from 1 to 5 · S7 basic communication Max. 2 – Reserved (default) 0 – Configurable from 0 to 2 So: Number of OP communication connections for CPU 312C: Max 5 (low) Number of OP communication connections for CPU 313C-2DP: Max 7 (low) Number of OP communication connections for CPU 314C-2DP: Max 11 To connect your 8 panels, you will have to look at a CPU 314C-2DP, at least. Saruca Posts: 122 Rating: (1)	First of all I want to thank you all! You're very kind. I don't know what I would do without your help. Sorry UMENCHO, I meant CPU 313C-2DP. I could reduce my newtwork yet another Panel down if that CPU only supports 7 of them. Now I understand that it's not an interface issue and that the number of connections is given in the CPU's characteristics. Always one of them is reserved for PG communication. When you say that 8 panels (7 from now on) are too many for just one CPU are you referring to the speed of the network? Maybe if I explain myself correctly this time you will be able to tell me if the network would function properly. I'm designing a Quality Control network. The panels would be placed in assembly lines so that the workers can introduce the defects they find in the different parts they use to make the final product. I wanted to use just one CPU for economic and simplicity reasons. The S7 Station would only have to receive the data sent by the panels and process it. That data would be sent to a PC where the SCADA software would be installed via MPI. I thought PROFIBUS would be the best way of connecting the panels to the S7 Station. I would only need to keep the defect figures updated so in this case the speed of the network wouldn't be an issue. I hope I've explained myself better this time. Otherwise sporadic connection losses may occur (it's from my experience, not refering any manual). Problem is in CPU - it just can't afford that much connections by it's throughput capabilities. Can you tell why are you so orientiered on OPs? If you just need screen+keyboard/mouse - then there are another solutions - for exapmle few servers (7 to be exact), each holding 4port videocard+28 KVM-extenders. I don't pretend this would be cheaper - it's just explaining alternative direction to think about.

Hello Aret, If you mentioned 2 OP for me will be perfect.Anyway, if we discuss cheapper solution plus safety in network connection, my vote is for S7-1200... And Sara, you didn't mention what type of panel you selected. Perhaps also will be better to use basic types... best regards, Hristo Mihalev

Saruca Posts: 122 Rating: (1)	The panel I was planning on using is TP177A. I chose that one because I wanted 6 inches and PROFIBUS. I thought that was the best choice but I'm realizing I didn't take into account any of the important CPU characteristics you told me, so maybe I've chosen the wrong panel too. I also chose touch panels because I wouldn't have the workers support if the solution wasn't the simplest one. I thought touch panels would be easy to handle for them. Once again, thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it. I'm learning so much in this forum Sara
