Why do I get #'s on all my signals in TIA WinCC ?

I copied and renamed an older project as a new project since the functionallity and I/O setup are almost identical. The tagnames have been renamed in both S7 and WinCC (Advanced) and I have downloaded the S7 part to a test controller. When I start simulation of the HMI panel I first get the HMI screens looking OK but they quickly end up with lots of ### instead of the 0 most of them should contain (see attached screenshots).
