Why is TON made as FB?

Goran_ Posts: 141 Rating: (0)	I dont see the reason why would SFB4 be implmented as a function block? This way for any use of this fb, I need to create instance db, which only overcomplicates stuff. I have also found out that in STL I can use a function like this, while in LADDER I cant. CALL #MyTONVariable IN: PT: Q: ET: In both STL and LADDER I can also use it normally with passing db: CALL SFB4, DB1 IN: PT: Q: ET: Which way is correct? I would like to avoid making several instances of instance db's, and use first method, if it will not make some undesirable problems.

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 5/29/2023 Posts: 2965 Rating: (1025)	another way is to simply drag the (S)FB from the (S)FB Blocks folder (or library), right mouse click on it and select "Change to Multiple Instance Call.." from the menu (note that this menu item is only available for (S)FB's that have call parameters). The reason for FBs is to have a piece of program which contain both - code and an internalretain data storage (as opposed to FCs which are only code). A TON functionality requires this "internal retain data storage".
