I see options for the 300 with CP modules & special FB's. Can I use the Ethernet port on my box PC and these same FB's? Maybe an OPC connection? Does Profinet have a way to talk Modbus/TCP?

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Hi charlesm, I fear I have to tell you that it is not that easy. The thing here is that the functionblocks you mentioned handle the protocol itself. Due to the fact that the CPs are not comparable with the WinAC Ethernet Interface you would have to reimplement the Protocol to the WinAC. If you would do this I am sure this could work. The matter here is that this would be your solution. There is no official one. PROFINET... or better to say Industrial Ethernet does not support Modbus TCP by default. Best regards J_Bell

Deka Posts: 65 Rating: (0)	Hi charlesm, of course. The product "OpenModbusTCP PN CPU" includes function blocks, which you can insert in your program and loadin the WinAC RTX. After that you can communicate with a third-party-system via ModbusTCP. Dennis

Dec Gold Member Joined: 5/19/2006 Last visit: 8/5/2023 Posts: 547 Rating: (107)	Hi there, I am not an expert in this forum thread but I think if you want to use OpenModbusTCP PN CPU you need to configure Ethernet CP as a submodule in WinAC-RTX 2008. For that you don't need SimaticNET but the Ethernet card has to have WinAC-RTX (edd_) driver aware (I82541-82573 or PN-CP 1616). Siemens didn't lost any sleep to support at least VIA3106for old MBOX 420. I am not sure butif you use a standard PC you might be out of luck. The other option will be to use IE-General and go with old style AG-SEND etc Modbus FBs. For that you need SimaticNET and NetPro connection config. Dec
