WinCC 6.2 and Excel 2007

Janac Posts: 134 Rating: (11)	hi, I need to read winCC archive (Tag logging) in Excel 2007 but i can do that, configuration tool requiers excel 2003 to install macros. Is there any way to do this in Excel 2007 ???? or some other way?? Thanx

JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (45)	No. In all my understanding, you need excel 2000,excel 2003 orexcel XP. Even WinCC 7.0 config tool does not support Office 2007. This is also true for use of archive config tool

Janac Posts: 134 Rating: (11)	i can understand that for old winCC, but if Siemens couldnt do it with WinCC 7.0 then all i can say is : ***S. Maybe they dont know that Excell can only be purchased in Office 2007.

JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (45)	Agree with you on WinCC7.0 But in industrial worldit normally takes sometime before you release a product for a new version software from MS. I never use anything from MS until product is in the market for a year. Only then you can say it is somewhat stable.I am nowayimplying that MS has stable products. I am one of those IBM(I blame Microsoft) guys. Hope this helps, You can still buy office 2003 from some online shops. Janac Posts: 134 Rating: (11)	you can buy it in USA but not from here where i am from. i must buy it from resellers of microsoft and for a long time it is 2007 version, if that is so for Siemens they could put some other tool to do that in i dont know open office, or via SQL or some import toll. or put the macros for excell public so others can do it by themself. this way it is not functional product (winCC 7.0), WinCC 7= well it looks like Vista but it runs with Office 2003 which you cannot buy legally. HAIL SIEMENS

Changethe registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\InstallRoot] "Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office12\\" to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\InstallRoot] "Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office12\\" 2. install ConfigurationTool stright from the folder ConfigurationToolstarting setup.exe

JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (45)	Mr Wojtek and everybody else, By doing this, you are only fooling the installation routine (and yourself). But Siemens does not guaranty it to work properly. Thereare always reasons, when a software product is not released to work with a particular version of another software product. First of all compatible products are tested together to make sure they work fine. But also there can be problems that found during testing that lead to exclusion of a version from compatibility list. Argument: Since it is not compatible, even if it seems to work ok, it does not mean it does not create problems. Sometimes problems created by incompatible software are so subtle that you may not realize it soon. So when you face a problem, you may break your head trying to fix it because you do not even know that the problem was caused by incompatible products. And if you contact Siemens tech support and if you tell them about using incompatible products, first thing they ask will be to use compatible software products. Confession: I have also done tricks to fools software and felt I have done something great. But never for a product that, had to be used for commercial use. Whenever I did it for personal purpose, I always kept in mind that I will take whatever problems arise from it, but many a times, later regretted that I even tried the trick. Conclusion: Now that I tried my level best to sound like your grumpy old university professor, let me tell you why I wrote such a long post.I have seen so many cases in this forum that arouse from incompatible software use. People waste valuable time and energy on problems that could have been avoided by spending a minute or two toglance thoughrelease notes before installing a product.

But in this case, If you don't want to use excel to work with wincc - just don't use it. You can do everything in WinCC. I give one way to solve the problem.
