WinCC 6 SP3 Mass config tool problem

gnook Posts: 42 Rating: (1)	I am using WinCC v6 (6.0.3.0) and the excel mass config tool. What I would like to do is paste in a load of tags from another excel sheet but every time I try it the tags appear momentarily then disappear. I have tried copying the construction of the tags sheet from the mass config tool so that I should have all the appropriate columns etc. but it still fails. Has anyone got any experience with the mass config tool and using it in this way? rgrds gnook

Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi gnook, you are using the mass conig tool for merging 2 projects? Pleaseuse it just within 1 project. For importing/exporting tags with WinCCyou can use the WinCC smarttool for importing/exporting tags. This tool can be started e.g. from your WinCC CD: WinCC\Setup\Products\cc_smarttools\setup.exe, choose variable imp./exp. Regards, Nemo

gnook Posts: 42 Rating: (1)	Hello Nemo, No, I am only using the config tool to access and manipulate data in one project. The sequence of events I amfollowing is below: - 1, I have a list of tags I want to add into my WinCC project, I format the excel sheet I have with the tags (Tag Name, Date Type, Data Length, Format Adaption, Connection, Group, Address) this should match the WinCC tags sheet. I select all the cells and choose 'copy'. 2, I open a new Excel sheet and make a connection to my WinCC project (my project is running). 3, I Then navigate to the 'Tag' sheet and the first blank cell after the last entry and choose paste. All of the tags are pasted in, then after the last entry is made the sheet clears all the pasted entries leaving no new tags created. If I select a background colour for the source tags and paste it this gets copied but nothing else. If I create a CSV file with all the tags could I import this directly into WinCC? If yes what format would the rows need to take or can you direct me to some help on the WinCC CD's? Thank you, Gnook

Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi gnook, in your WinCC online help you can find some more info about the configuration tool and how to handle it: smarttools > WinCC configuration tool http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/13681075 Anyway you should check the smart tools > Variable Export/Import as well. If you export your existing tags to a csv-file you get a good example how to format the data. => this works with deactivated RT. Nemo

gnook Posts: 42 Rating: (1)	Hello Nemo, Yes, I have tried the import/export tool I suppose it is usable and saves a little time however by the time I add all the formatting to my list of variables I will have entered them manually. I have given up looking for a quick simple solution now and have entered the tags manually. Maybe in WinCC SP4 the mass config tool will work and allow mass configuration of all variables! Thanks for your help, at least now I amaware of a method to handle tag entry if I have more than 300 tags to create. rgds Gnook.

gnook Posts: 42 Rating: (1)	I finally got some feed back from the hotline and they told me it is possible to copy tag names but no other details into the tags sheet of the mass config tool but you have to be carefull that there are no illegal characters (my sheet had a space at the start of the tag name which I did not notice). I will try again with some test tag names to see if it really works.[:D]
