WinCC and Step7 V5.5

Helllo

I have recently set up a WinCC license wich I use for hmi controlling Siemens ET 200S on a ethernet connection. And this is working great, I am new to all this so I took a good time geting all things right.

At the same building I have couple of old S7-300 cpu´s wich are connected together with a profibus and since I only have TIA Portal I will problaby need to buy step7 V5.5 to communicate with those.

But I wanted to ask if I will have some problem with communicaton from step 7 to WinCC in TIA Portal if I wanted the hmi project to read info from the old cpu ?

Please correct me if I am wrong but I think I will have to make a project in Step 7 V5.5, wich I use to download to my cpu and then convert that project to TIA Portal and add it to my existing project and stablish the connection from hmi to the cpu.

So the question is basically, is there some problem you guys have had with WinCC Tia Portal V13 and Step 7 V5.5. ?

you can use profibus with

• WinCC V13 & STEP 7 V13 (both TIA Portal)
  as well as
• WinCC V13 & STEP 7 V5.5,

but it's much easier to use the first combination and connect everything in TIA Portal.

Which TIA Portal software do you have?
WinCC V13 Basic/Advanced/Professional?
Do you already have STEP 7 V13 or STEP 7 V5.5 or do you want to choose between these two?
What kind of HMI do you use? An operator Station on one/more PCs or panels?

You can use the TIA Selection Tool and/or the Compability Tool to look if your combination of PLC and HMI and other periphery is compatible:

How old are the S7-300? You can use the listed tools or post it here to see if you can use STEP 7 V13.
CPU 312 (V2.6) and up should be alright.

The software I have installed are:

Step 7 Professional V13 SP1 Update 3

WinCC Advanced V13 SP1 Update 3

The Hmi is only a one windows 8, PC operation station with WinCC license.

The CPU is from about 2000, maybe 2002. I added a picture of it as a attachment, and also here are the product information I have about the unit:

S7-300 CPU315-2 DP

315-2AF01-0AB0

I contacted the next Siemens distributor and I was told that if I bought a serial connections model from Siemens that I could maybe upload but not download to the CPU if I had only Step 7 Tia Portal and would need to have an older version.

Well, I guess he's right.

If you use STEP 7 V5.5 you really should look at the application example I linked last in my previous post.

But while you have STEP 7 Professional V13 SP1 anyway... how about downloading the GSD file of your S7-300 PLC (10th from the top: "CPU315-2AF02.ZIP")

and just do a little experiment to see what is possible?

After installing the GSD you can find your PLC in the hardware catalog of  the hardware configuration.

GSD is not usefull here because is only for communication configuration for this PLC as i-Slave.
You can't upload/download data from or to this PLC , TIA doesn't support this old PLCType.

And you can't migrate the project from Step7 V5.5 to TIA.

The only way you have to couple the S7-300 PLC to a TIA HMI is the device proxy.

But for this you must have Step7 V5 and TIA WinCC installed on the same System.

At the end of the description you will find another Solution for TI V11 (Tag Converter).

You can trys this if is working for you.

But another way is not possible.
