WinCC as OPC client

vegito Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hello all, I am also facing the same problem other members are facing. I am new to SCADA WINCC OPC, I took the help of the PDF file supplied by SIEMENS which is "Communication WinCC - WinCC V6 Using OPC DA",In this PDF steps are explained to configure WINCC as OPC Server and as OPC Client(Refer Page 455 in PDF attached ). Now the problem I am facing is when I want to configure WINCC as OPC Client. In OPC Item Manager, when I select OPCServer.Wincc.1 under "LOCAL" network and Click "Browse Server", there is an error "could not access the selected OPC server". I have also made the necessary DCOM settings given in the PDF. I am also attaching the screen shots and PDF in rar file. Wincc installed: WinCC explorer V7.2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Split from i can't find OPCServer.WinCC. bg2492 Diamond Member Joined: 5/16/2014 Last visit: 9/12/2022 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2178)	Hello vegito, this error comes usually, when the WinCC-Runtime is not running. If you get this error too, when the Runtime is runnig, you should check the DCOM-Konfiguration. Regards Georg Berghof

Am I suppose to run the WinCC runtime when I click the "Browse server" button in the OPC Item Manager. or Are you asking me to check whether the runtime is running fine or not. If it is the second one then my Runtime is running fine as I have S7 protocol Suite channel along with OPC channel. Whatever project under S7 protocol suite connection is running totally fine with Runtime. In DCOM settings also I have given full access to all the Users. FYI I have reinstalled OPC server through the WinCC setup twice, still the problem persists.

bg2492 Diamond Member Joined: 5/16/2014 Last visit: 9/12/2022 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2178)	Hello vegito, the OPC DA Server of WinCC delivers the values of the WinCC-tags, when the WinCC-Runtime is not running, the OPC Server does not get the values from the Datamanager of WinCC, and in this case, you will get such an Error as in your screenshot. If you get this error too, when the Runtime is really runnig, you should check the DCOM-Configuration.
