WinCC as OPCclient

Jeebs Posts: 218 Rating: (28)	Hey, I am trying to make WinCC act as a OPC-client/router between a 3rd party OPC-server and a S7-400 PLC. This because the server is incapable of S7 communication. My current problem is the connection between WinCC and the 3rd party OPC-server: Upon creating the tags, I can browse the server. And according to WinCC explorer > Tools > Status of driver connections, I am connected to the server during RT. However, I can't seem to get any data-flow. There is no read request/tag read. Values remain at starting value. Quality is 4c. Setup is: WinCC is installed on WinXP PC on active directory network environment. 3rd Party server is installed on WinXPEmbedded outside this network/domain, accessable only via IP-address. Will this setup be a problem? I have read in the FAQ's that WinCC v5 required both server and client to be in the same domain.Is this still true for WinCC v6? OPC Scout however, delivered with Simatic NET-software, doesn't have any problem connecting to the server or getting any data from it. Any help would be great. Jeebs

Ikkezelf Posts: 1084 Rating: (72)	Hi, If set up correctly there should not be a problem if you host them in different domains. * When you browse the server you are able to see the tags? and are able to add them to wincc? * You said something about only beign able to connect to the opc server by ipadress over the domain. Please try to include the ipadress and the name into the hosts file on the wincc machine. Wincc normally connects to other machines by computername and not ipadress. * Turn on the logging within wincc (channel Diagnosis) and within the 3rd party OPC server and check what is reported. with regards, Ikkezelf

Jeebs Posts: 218 Rating: (28)	Ok, so we had a little problem with the remote Server not being linked to by name, but rather IP. This has been fixed. Also the OPC-Foundation whitepaper, link from April, just finished it of. Connection made and data being transferred, thanks for the enormous help on this one. Jeebs One happy programmer
