“Simple Samples” are small projects that demonstrate simple features. The target is give a quick overview about the theme and be used as start point for related discussions. Follow there are a short description and the configuration main steps.

Description:

In this sample, a controller's user program Program_alarm block call will generate a message on a HMI. The instance DB name will be part of the alarm text.

Alarm messages are an important tool for operation diagnose of process and system events. Adding the instance DB name as part of the alarm text, it is possible to individualize any block call message. The possibility to generate messages directly from the controller's blocks reduces the HMI configuration time.

The same main steps are also applicable to WinCC Advanced / WinCC Professional.

Requirements:

WinCC Comfort V14.

Configuration main steps:

On Controller side:

• Create a block (Block_1)
• Add a static variable (staticInstanceDBIdentification) data type = Wstring [20]
• Call GetInstanceName (Toolbox → Extended Instructions → String + Char → Runtime Information); size = 20; Out = staticInstanceDBIdentification
• Call as multi-instance the Program_Alarm block (Toolbox → Extended Instructions → Alarming)
• Set the alarm text (selct the Program_Alarm block call, inspection window → Properties → Alarm → Basic Settings → Alarm Text)
• Click on the input text with right mouse buttom → insert dynamic parameter (tag); Process = taticInstanceDBIdentification; display type = text
• Connect the Program_Alarm SIG input to a trigger signal (here, to the Block_1 SIG input)
• Call Block_1 from OB1 (Main) so many times as necessary, connect the Block_1 SIG input to different tags so that it could be triggered individually.

On HMI side:

• Set the controller alarms (project tree → HMI → Runtime Settings → Alarms → Controller Alarms
• Drag and drop the controller's trigger tags to the HMI screen (to be possible trigger the alarms from HMI) Se as reference/1/)
• Place a Alarm View (“ToolBox” → “controls”)

TIP:it is possible to use other blocks (GetSymbleName, GetSymblePath, GetInstancePath, GetBlockName) instead of GetInstanceName to add information to the messages.

Is the "Program_Alarm" block only available on the S7-1500 series of controllers, I cannot find it on my instruction list for my Sy-1200?

you cannot use "Program_Alarm" in S71200 only in S71500.
