WinCC Intermittent Printing Problem

Aaric Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have anintermittent printingproblem with my WinCC v5application running on Windows 2000. Could anyone advise why this is happening? My application prints atext reportfile from a specific folder after the product sterilization processis done. The problem is sometime it prints and sometime it does not print and we have to restart the PC to run the process again to reprint thereport file. No errormessage is prompted. Thanks, Aaric

SP?? do you use? which Windows2000- version/SP? do you use? is there any other software installed on your system? is there a virus scanner running? is it a WinCC standalone or client server system? how much memory does your computer have? how much space is free/available on your harddisk? could you post here your wincc diagnose files (..\wincc\diagnose\...)? how high is your CPU-load during normal operation? SP?? do you use? v5.1 withSP1 which Windows2000- version/SP? do you use? Professional version withSP4 is there any other software installed on your system? A/D editor running concurrent with WinCC is there a virus scanner running? No anti-virus installed. is it a WinCC standalone or client server system? Stand-alone, with a local USB printer how much memory does your computer have? 384 MB how much space is free/available on your harddisk? 2 partitions, C:\ is the operating system partitionand currently used 74%. D:\ is the program partition andnot able to check size now due to machine running. could you post here your wincc diagnose files (..\wincc\diagnose\...)? how high is your CPU-load during normal operation? A/D editor running concurrent with WinCC Is this software during WinCC-RT running or just installed? how much memory does your computer have? 384 MB => seems a little bit to few memory, please check the WinCC readme at "Start > simatic > product notes" how much space is free/available on your harddisk? 2 partitions, C:\ is the operating system partitionand currently used 74%. => how much is this in MB? could you post here your wincc diagnose files (..\wincc\diagnose\...)? => are these files actual?, they don´t contain newer time stamps, but in the past you had some trouble with more than 5000 actions: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/2357302 that could cause high systemloads..... Well, it seems like the problem lies on the Windows platform and hardware setuprather than WinCC. Also, next week, I will reply you on the actual MB used / availableon the harddisk and the latest diagnose files so that you have more information to advise me further. In the mean time, I have some questions. 1) You mentioned "WinCC V5.1 SP1 is just allowed with Windows2000 prof SP3". You mean if I have WinCC V5.1 SP1 with Windows2000 prof SP4, what could be affected? The reason I ask this is because my application can still be run but onlyencounter intermittent printing problem. 2) What is your recommendation on the memory size? Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi Aaric, WinCC is just released (and tested!) for those Windows-versions mentioned in the FAQ / WinCC release notes. Well, increasing e.g. RAM is just one thing. If you did a lot of C-scripts you must check e.g. in the WinCC log files, whether your scripts are locking memory (if you allocate memory for pointers) or causing more than 5000 actions at the same time... In the WinCC readme you just find the minimum requirements for WinCC...in my experience you can never have enough RAM - for any program based on a microsoft-platform [:D] Enjoy the weekend, nemo
