WinCC OPC Server with AspenTech CIM-IO for OPC

dlessen Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I have installed AspenTech CIM-IO for OPC (client) and WinCC OPC Server on the same computer. The WinCC OPC project is running and I can see the executable for the WinCC OPC serverrunning in the Task Manager. I can run CIM-IO for OPC within a command window and have it make a connection to WinCC.OPC Server, and read tags successfully. However CIM-IO for OPC was designed to run as a service. When I run it as a service, I can not make a connection to the WinCC.OPC server. I have tried all kinds of options for service security and I have looked at the docs for DCOM settings provided by SIMATIC, about 6 times now, and can not determine why the same executable seems to work in a command window, but not as a service. FYI on this same computer is SimaticNET.OPC and this seems to behave well with CIM-IO for OPC running as a windows service. Any ideas? Thanks Dan

In our plant we are successfully using CIM IO client and WinCC OPC Server (on same WinCC client machine) connecting to the IP21 data server. Let me know if you are looking for any specific settings. I did contact AspenTech and I had four technians with a WebEX session on the phone making various recommendations. They couldn't solve the issue. I am using the latest version of CIM-IO for OPC v 9.xxx. I've found another thread where a person is having a similar issue with WinCC v6.2. We are running WinCC v6.2 SP. In fact, I can't even get OPC Scout to work against WinCC.OPC if the log-on account is different from the WinCC runtime account. FYI I am new to WinCC and I keep looking for addition application security that might be causing a problem. As I've said, I've looked at and manipulated DCOM settings for about 30 man-hours. I can make things worse in DCOM, but I can't seem to figure this out. If you want to share details, I would be so happy. I guess the first thing I would ask you, does the runtime user account for SOPCSRVRWinCC.exe (WinCC.OPC) match the runtime user account for asyncDlgp.exe ? Thanks, Dan

dlessen Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Anotherthing I don't understand is why local WinCC access is limited to only the windows account that starts the runtime project.If you start the WinCC with a givenwindow's account and then log onwith another window's account, you can noteven open WinCC Explorer, or connect to WinCC.OPC using OPC Scout, or even export tags using "Tag Export Import". I have reviewed and confirmed the settings listed using the "SIMATIC Security Control" and I have implemented the WinCC OPC itemsaccording thecorresponding documentation on commissioning. Thanks, Dan

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	We are using WinCC 6.0 but it should work with V6.2 as well. Find attached the runtime account settings we are using. You are right about the DCOM settings. Changing these is not good. The manual specifically states that all the settings (after WinCC & connectivity pack installations) are ok. In fact when we were commissioning this (about 2 years ago), I had to restore original image of WinCC client machine since we messed with the DCOM settings and the thing stopped working! First you should make sure the OPC communication is ok by trying with a “test” OPC client (available free on the web). Regards and All the Best Attachment Dokument1.pdf (364 Downloads)

If so, the state of the service"AspenTech CIM-IO for OPC" is in manaul and currently stopped. If the above is all true, then someone moved the startup for asyncdlgp.exefrom the service to someplace else, perhaps the batch file thatis called from service "AspenTech CIM-IOManager"? Thanks, Dan
