Wincc Professional download ES ot OS over VPN (eWon)

bosandzeros Bronze Member Joined: 7/1/2013 Last visit: 1/22/2025 Posts: 85 Rating: (4)	Hello, I am using Wincc Professional 15.1 UPD 6 on Windows 10 Pro engineering, and runtime on Windows 10 LTSC 2019. I am trying to download changes to an RT PC located at a client site from an engineering laptop in my office. Connection is established over Ewon eCatcher software and underlying eWon infrastructure. After some trouble I am able to ping the RT PC by IP address and by name from the laptop. But the simatic shell doesn't see the RT PC. After putting both PC's simatic shell to "Encrypted communication" RT PC can see laptop through simatic shell, but not vice versa. RT pc using eWon device ip address as Multicast Proxy 192.168.30.1. On my laptop I have tried to use 192.168.30.1 as multicast proxy, and also RT PC ip address, but without results. When I was on site it was possible to execute the download as intended from the same laptop. But there was a problem, every morning I had to disable my WiFi network adapter and enable it again to make simatic shell on my laptop discover RT PC. Any idea what can be the problem ? Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 4/25/2025 Posts: 15355 Rating: (1895)	Hello bosandzeros there are a lot of things to consider: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/88780011 If you work with VPN then you should use the enchrypt communication with a defined Port in Simatic Shell on both sides. Also you should use each other in the Simatic Shell as Multicast proxy. Check the Number of routers you have between the two stations and set the Multicast TTL to this value or higher. you must be able to see each other in Simatic Shell if it should work. I did tried to use encrypted communcation, but in that case only RT PC was able to "see" engineering laptop through simatic shell, but not vice versa. I don't know how to determine ip address of laptop connected to the RT PC lan over VPN. I am not sure that my laptop gets an IP address from RT PC LAN range at all. Ewon device iteslf doesn't have DHCP server enabled, nor there is any DHCP server in RT PC LAN. Is this an issue ? What I have found in documentation is that eWon device I am using doesn't support multicast packtets. But does it matter if multicast proxy is IP address of RT PC ? Best regards

Use on the ES the OS IP as Multicast proxy and on the OS the ES IP as Multicast Proxy. Then use the TTL higher then amount of routers. Enchrypted Communication you have to use because there is used a definied Port (How to use, you can see in the WinCC Manual). If you do not use then there will be used a dynamic Port range and this would cause problems in firewalls... Bye Murof
