WinCC redundancy: creation of standby project

We are using WinCC 6.0 Sp4 and have the following configuration

Engineering station, WinCC server, WinCC standby server and six clients without an own project.

In the step-7 project on the engineering station we configured the above mentioned components and added the wincc and wincc-stdby applications to the simatic stations. After compiling the wincc server application the tags and alarms are generated and we can download the project to the server and we can simulate the project on the engineering station so everything is working fine.

The probleem is the standby station. If we download the standby station only an empty project is downloaded. We expected that by compiling the server station the stdby station would be created also but this is not the case. If we use the project duplication tool we can only duplicate to an remote computer so we can't duplicate from the server project directory to the standby project directory on the engineering station.

With the duplication tool we can of course create the standby project directly on the standby server but this seems to bypass the TIA concept. We have the following questions:

1 Is it possible to create the standby project on the engineering station so that we can download itfrom here

2 If this is not possible what is than the purpose of the download option which is available for the standby server in the step7 project on the engineering station?

Thanks for your answer. This partly answers my question.

Firstly I did not know that a standby project could be created with the save-as option (I thought only the duplication option was meant for this). It was possible to save the main server project on the engineering station to the standby station directory. After that it was possible to download from the engineering station to the standby server.

The remaining problem is that if the save-as option is used some project settings (like the server pc name and some redundancy settings) must be changed in the standby project to make it work correctly.

If I try to do this on the engineering station by opening the wincc application object in the standby Pc station than the following message appears:

"Data can not be configured in a standby OS. The standby OS recieves all data from the master OS"

The above mentioned message suggests that the standby project is generated from the master OS. The last sentence of the FAQ you gave also suggests this:

"If your WinCC project is integrated in the SIMATIC Manager, you should use the "PLC > Download" function of the SIMATIC Manager instead of the Project Duplicator"

So I am still wondering if it is possible to generate the standby OS in the step-7 project manager and which actions or settings are nessecary to do this.

(of course I can edit the standby project on the standby server itself with the wincc explorer, and than everything works fine, but the purpose of integrating wincc in the step-7 project is to keep things on one central location (the engineering station))

Did you manage to generate the Standby server data on the ES or did you do it with the project duplicator after all?
