WinCC Structure Tags Problem

jmgbp Posts: 6 Rating: (1)	Hello When creating a structure tag, the tag elements always give me a adressing error! I'm using WinCC v6 SP4, comunicating with an Omron CS1G-H, through CX-OPC Server. I've created a structure type named "step" with 5 elements called 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, each one with the offset of 2 (unsigned word 16 bit) of the type "word", then created a new tag called "Dryer1" of the type "step" with the adressing parameters: Item Name: "O3", Access Path: "OMRON.OpenDataServer.1", data type: Unsigned 16 bit value. The CX-OPC Server has a point created with the name "O3", Data Location: D1030, Elements: 5, Internal Data Type: Single Word unsigned BCD. I believe the CX OPC configuration is correct because if I create a single tag I can access the first word on the PLC but not the rest. My objective is to create a structure tag with 350 elements to save development time! Please Help me Best Regards João Pereira Portugal

jmgbp Posts: 6 Rating: (1)	I can create the tags also, but in Runtime it doesn't read the tag value and if you go to wincc explorer under tag management the tag says: quality:4, Start Value,Adressing error Do I have to create all similar process tags manualy, if so I cannot read a set of Words (for example 350) from the PLC and use them in WinCC. This will mean creating 8000 tags one by one, it makes no sense to me! This is very strange because severall other HMI softwares allow this. P.S. Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi, could you please attacht your WinCC log files (\wincc\diagnose) Perhaps the followingmanual is interesting (I just searched the FAQs for "WinCC OPC": http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/21320307(chapter 3.5) Does your OPC-Tags have start values in WinCC tagmanagement? In WinCC online help there is also information available, search for "structure opc" nemo

Imagine this: - In my opc server I configured a point called "Test" which is redirected to 2 16bit Words in the PLC - In WinCC I already had a OPC driver with a connection to the OPC Server for the PLC called OMRON.OpenDataServer.1 tested and working properly - Created a Struture type called "Step" with two elements, of the WORD type, called E1 and E2, E1 offset 0 and E2 offset 2, external tag, and type conversion WordToUnsignedWord - Then I created a new tag under Tag Management -> OPC -> OPC Groups -> Sechage (my driver connection to the OPC Server) called TAG, data type: "Step". Adressing->Item Name: Test, AcessPath: OMRON.OpenDataServer.1, Data Type: Unsigned 16-bit value. Then created a new pdl with 2 iofields connected to the tagsI created, and no value is shown in none of the IOfields in RT, and when I go to the tag management I put the mouse over the tags and get as a ToolTip this: Process value: 0 Quality: 4 - Start value - Adressing error Last Change: 01/02/2007 16:01:07 Am I doing anything wrong???? trini Posts: 19 Rating: (8)	Have you tried setting 'Data Type' to 'Unsigned 16-bit array' instead of 'unsigned 16-bit'? I have not tried it myself but I guess it could work ...

jmgbp Posts: 6 Rating: (1)	Thank you all for your assistance! I've tried everything possible to get it to work (your suggestion included trini), but it didn't. I believe that WinCC does not work with data blocks with an Omron PLC, maybe it only works with siemens, at least it doesn't have native support for it. I solved my problem another way, I created a global function with VBS and now I can transfer any size of data blocks, for example 3000 words at once and only occupie one external tag which is excellent for future projects not for this one, I already had bought a 8192 tag license. So problem solved! I'm liking WinCC potentialities, but its way too complicated and wastes a lot of Development time in small things. The Manuals are very incomplete so its kind of hard for a person to start working with it without help, but so far i'm on the right way! Regards
