I would like to use segmented circular logs to run trends on my HMI, could be a PC based HMI or a Comfort Panel, 12 inches, Part Nº 6AV21240MC010AX0. My idea is to use an external drive to store the data, with the following configuration: Segmented circular log 52 sequences 71000 data records (approx) Logging cycle: 1 min My idea is to allow the user to check the trends up to a year. I have been running simulations on the PC based version and it seems to work fine. However, I found also the following information: Segmented circular log: NOTICE Make sure not to exceed the device-related system limits when configuring a "segmented circular log". The total number of configured log entries is calculated as follows: Total = "data records per log" x "number of segments". Based on this, the limit for the Comfort panel I have is 20000 data records. Is this limit per log segment or the whole log? I have seen programs with configurations of Historical data log way bigger than mines (500000 data records & 500 sequences). However, I am not sure about their functionality. Furthermore, Is there any limits for the PC based version? Any ideas how the performance of the device could be affected by this? Thanks in advance.

Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 4/17/2025 Posts: 15311 Rating: (1893)	Hello be sure that the limits for an Advanced Runtime are max. 500000 Entries per Log If you have segmented Logs then you have to calculate the product so for example 50000 entries and 10 Segments are -> 500000 entries per Log(the maximum!) and so it is also written in the Help System! In Comfort panels the Limits are much lower -> depends on the size from 20000 to 50000 -> if you need more have a look at this Workaround or use WinCC Professional RT (another System with SQL Server inside, here you can use much,muchmuch more data) https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/de/en/view/109477071 Bye Murof
