WinCC Time Synchronization - How do I use the symbolic computername as accesspoint?

For the configuration of the time synchronization of an OS Server you can use the WinCC "Time Synchonization" Dialog in the WinCC Explorer.

When you do the configuration of time synchronization via the System Bus, you can choose to display the symbolic name of the access point.

What is this option for?

This option is important to make the time synchronization configuration of another station on the ESand the used network card isn't installed on the current Engineering Station.

It can happen that the name of the physical network card is to long to be dispalyed properly. In this case you can use symbolic name to make it easyer to choose the corrected card.

When you have activated the option "Display symbolic name of access point" you can choose out of some predefined, possible access points.

The notation of those symbolic names is for instance:
<CP1613(ISO)(1)>
or
<CP1623(ISO)(2)>

When choosing an access point pay attention to:

The numers in the brackets (1), (2) are indicating the board number where the network card is plugged in. You can determine this board number by using the Configuration-Console.

But for the card on the first board there is no number showing.
So following symbolic name in WinCC Time Synchronization dialog is equal to following name in the configuration console.

<Softnet(1)> = Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection
<Softnet(2)> = Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection(2)
<Softnet(3)> = Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection(3)

Hint:
So called Softnet cards are all regular network cards(BCE, Basic Communication Ethernet). CPs are called CP1613, or CP1632.
