WinCC V12 Advanced "ChangeConnection" issue

jweichler Posts: 25 Rating: (0)	Hi All I am in the process of migrating an existing project created by myself from WinCC Flexible 2008 to WinCC Advanced V12. We have a system of 8 S7-1200 PLC systems networked together. The PLC are monitored by WinCC running on a PC. Since all the PLC stations are identical, we use WinCC RT with 1 screen. We change between the PLC stations using a button with the event "ChangeConnection". There are 8 buttons, each changed the IP address to one of the PLC's. This system works perfectly. We are forced to use absolute addressing since symbolic access from S7-1200 to winCC flex 2008 is impossible. Now I have to add some functionality to the system and since we are now using WinCC Advanced on several other projects, so I decided to give it a try here. Everything works fine apart from the "changeconnection" command. No matter how i try it, I cannot get any of my connections to appear in the drop down menu.I've done some reading around and it seems that "changeconnection" can only be used with absolute addressing. This is fine and I have changed all my tags to absolute addressing. It still wont work. For testing purposes I have created another button with the "connectionmode" command. This command allows the user to turn the connection on and offline. I am able to select my connections and it works fine. I have created a blank WinCC project with 1 button. The function still does not recognise my connection. I have also tried changing the connection type to 300/400. Still no joy. I have checked the siemens documentation and changeconnection is supported for both the S7-1200 and WinCC V12 advanced. Please can someone help me here? I have attached a screenshot of my connections and the events associated with one of the buttons in question. K!ke Posts: 1299 Rating: (136)	Hello, where did you get the information that "ChangeConnection" is supported for S7 1200? In manualI found: "The follows PLC types are supported: SIMATIC S7 300/400 SIMATIC S7-NC SIMOTION" so I suspect you can't use it with s7-1200. K!ke

jweichler Posts: 25 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the reply. The information about the S7-1200 compatibility was in the help file for "change connection". Select changeconnection and press F1. In addition I have also tried this with an S7-300 connection. I still cannot get "changeconnection" to recognise any of my connections. As a last resort I tried to use WinCC V12 professional. I couldnt even find the "changeconnection" command. John

K!ke Posts: 1299 Rating: (136)	Hello, the manual you referred was for wincc advanced v12.0. I found this information in manual for wincc advanced v12.0 sp1. did you install sp1? I have sp1 and I already used this function with s7-300 K!ke

The follows address types are supported: ● IP address ● MPI address The follows PLC types are supported: ● SIMATIC S7 1200 ● SIMATIC S7 300/400 ● SIMATIC S7-NC ● SIMOTION ChangeConnection is not possible with S7-1200 as far as I know, but: it might be dependend on the FW version of the RT / Panel, as in V11 it was possible, at least as far as I remember. Check the online help and readme, I thought there was entry telling that is is not possible with S7-1200.

jweichler Posts: 25 Rating: (0)	Hi All. Sorry for the slow reply - I have been working on other projects. I've updated my system to TIA v12 SP1. I am now able to use "change connection" with an S7-300 connection. Previously I managed to access the S7-1200 with wincc flexible by setting the connection type to S7-300. Note that only absolute addressing is possible and all data blocks need to be non-optimised.. Hopefully this will work with wincc advanced which will mean i can also use change connection with the S7-1200. Thanks again. John

I've done lot of trial and error and have even open case with Siemens. My conclusions are: - ChangeConnection event works with S7-300/400 HMI connection type. -ChangeConnection event works with S7-1200 HMI connection type as long as HMI is configured to use firmware V11. When HMI panel (tested with MP and Comforts) is configured to use firmware V12 or V13 then S7-1200 HMI connection is not presentt in select connection popup box when ChangeConnection event is configured. This leaves us with two workarrounds. On is to downgrade HMI to firmware V11 in which case certain newer events introduced in V12 and V13 firmware may not be usable. Second option is to configure S7-300/400 HMI connection for S7-1200 PLC in which case symbolic addressingand shared database between PLC and HMIcan't be used. I've asked Siemens if this was a bug or feature was taken away for some other reason but never got any answer from them. Olgierd
