knucklhead Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hello All, I have recently upgraded Wincc 6 from SP2 to SP4. Everything was going fine until one of my clients tried to run some script behind a button. The odd thing is that I have 4 clients that will run this same script on the same pdl from the same server just fine.2 of my clients will lock up script.exe when this button is pressed. APDIAG output window gives me this when the button is pressed: Program Number Selected = 7.000000Diesel SQLQuery = ProgramNumber = 7.000000 F1d8 (5) : general protection fault.. I have seen in previous posts where string pointers can cause script.exe to hang so Ichanged the code to sprintf's and still had the problem. I do not suspect a code problem because this code has been used for a couple of years now. I can post it if needed. Also, I have de-installed wincc on one of these client and re-install with no help. Which operating system is installed on your clients? The 2 clients that are not working are running W2K SP4. I have 2 more with W2K SP4 and 2 with XP SP1that are working. Is there any other software (than Microsoft Windows/WinCC) installed on your clients? These 2 also have WinAC on them. (So does 2 others that are working.) How much free disk space / virtual memory / RAM is available on your clients? Disk space free = 75GB out of 80GB; Virtual Memory free = 700MB out of 768MB; RAM free = 44MB out of 256MB In which level did you run APDIAG? Level 6 How did you desinstall WinCC - including the regkeys? I put in the install disk and selected remove wincc completely. I did nothing else. (Obvious I know but I had to ask ! ) - Can you post the calling function here ? (I would like to see how values are written into the lpszPictureName, lpszObjectName, cLotNumber and cSubLotNumbervariables. Worth mentioning that these are string pointers!)

UA is installed on the one that is not working and is not on the one that is working. Both of these clients do not have UA activated in the startup (cannot because they are clients.) I need to check the other client with the problem, but they are using it at the moment. Also I checked my redundant server today, and it also gives the error when running this script.( UA is on this and activatd of course.) Salma Gold Member Joined: 9/27/2005 Last visit: 11/27/2007 Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	Well that explains why some clients don't crash - they aren't doing anything [:D] Now my Cknowledgeis very limited but it looks like you are passing a pointer to a pointer and never actually allocating any memory to the strings lpszPictureName and lpszObjectName. Surely this will lead to a memory crash. For testing purposes can you tryhard coding in the picture name and object name. If it doesn't crash at least we know that is the cause. Then some kind C guru can explain wherebest to allocate the memory using malloc. e.g. Line1_LoadSelectedLotPreperation("my_picture.PDL", "my_object", GetPropChar(lpszPictureName,"cmb_LotNumber","Text"), GetPropChar(lpszPictureName,"cmb_SubLotNumber","Text") );

However you say that the client without UA is actually returning the data. I guess it depends on what clients you have, with project (multi-client) or without project (uni-client). You mention redundancy so I would assume you have the former, client with project, as this is the recommended solution. But if you have a client without project then I guess the script could be running on the server and getting returned to the client. Let us know what happens with the test.
