WinCC v6 sample project with C scripts

Husam Posts: 101 Rating: (11)	Hello Salma, I am actually looking for an example of manipulating Graphics Designer Objects that i have already drawn. I want to manipulate these objects using C scripts. for example, i will read the serial port and parse the data, thereafter, update the objects' properties, backgroud color or flashing accordingly. As for the serial comm, i could successfully include the dll into WinCC. It will be also very useful and kind of you if you provide me with example of a C script in a PDL page, and any other C scripts that might help.. Appreciate your cooperation, Regards, Husam Othman.

Do you wish to animate objects on a WinCC screen in runtime? So that when your project is activated you will read data from the serial port and depending on the values read in, you want objects on the screen to flash, change colour, etc. If the above is true then you can do most it without the need for C scripting. WinCC is very powerful and contains a lot of features / wizardsthat obviate the need for scripting. You could use direct tag links to properties, dynamic wizards and direct connects to animatea screen. Before I go any further, can you clarify that my understanding is correct. BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO START. I would appreciate it very very much if you provide me with the help i need. I am a university student and have to finish this project. This guide steps you through some of the basic animation. This guide is a good way to get an appreciation for how WinCC works. Please go through this guide, or at least just the picture building part. The WinCC manual can be found at Start -> SIMATIC -> WinCC -> WinCC Information System and contains the Getting Started book. I am afraid that I do not have the time to write up a step-by-step guide for animating objects - this usually takes one whole day on the WinCC training course! However, if after going through the Getting Started Guide you still have specific questions then please do not hesitate to post your questions here. Happy learning ! Salma

Husam Posts: 101 Rating: (11)	Hello Salma, Thanks alot for your cooperation.. I have done reading the "Getting Started" and some other manuals for WinCC 6. They were useful. However, i still couldn't figure out how to make WinCC project tags update their status according to the values that are read from the serial port. Remember, I still couldn't make wincc talk through the serial port. I am sending the data from S7-200 slave device via RF transmitter using a packet frame of my own. I should also do parsing in WinCC. How can i read from the port and update the tags accordingly?.. i still dont get it. In this context, is WinCC Flex better doing what i want. Thanks alot. Husam.

You can use a serial driver (I believe someone has posted a link on this forum already) or Omniserver by Descartes. However I would agree with Nemo that you may want to look at the tested options such as OPC first. Regards, Salma
