Hello janac; Here is a link to the completeStep 7compatibility matrix: (it cross-references with Window OS and WinCC, see page 36). http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/18734363 However, it does not mention Windows server 2008... actually, the only link I found on the web for siemens and WS2008 is the new line of Siemens-Fujitsu servers that come with it standard. and the link comes from microsoft: http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/0/0/7004b9c7-ac3c-4c3c-977e-a98d398bd3bc/Siemens_WS08_Final.doc No product of A&D seems to be officially supported yet on WS2008. Maybe someone can suggest a more informative source? Regards, Daniel Charter |

Hi Janac, whats the reason you want to use a not released version of operating system. If you have some other problems you do not have any chance to get support because you use a not released operating system. I think the best way is to use some released operating systems... Cumu |

Hi, This is what Siemens says about WinCC compatibility http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/21927774 Windows Server 2008 is not mentioned, so its not compatible |
Best regards, |

I have to agree with Janac. As integrators you have to make descisions in what OS to use. For big projects that can be ahead of schedule for 1 year +. ' Meaning that if you want to develop something for windows 2008 64 bit, you I'm strugling myself as well on what to do. maybe someone else to shine a light on this? |

Hi For the license point of view, there are no problems, since you can buy Windows Server 2008 and "downgrade" to Windows Server 2003. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/downgrade-rights.aspx Now some chat we normally have in a bar. For the question on why Siemens is not "fast enough" with the compatilibity to Windows, I'd ask instead why Microsoft is so fast. We also cannot compare the situation to an office or at home. If your game or Word processor doesn't work with the new Windows, not really a big deal. But if a SCADA system doesn't work, then you have a real problem. When a new Windows is release, you cannot simply start adapting everything to it. We have some cases where Windows versions was not really adopted by the market as Windows ME and Windows Vista. So the effort to update the software must be taken into account on the market acceptance for the new operating system. How many of you still runs Windows XP? Mike J |

Found this thread while desperately searching for information about 64-bit OS support on Simatic NET products. Totally agree what Ikkezelf said before in this thread. Its really pain in the ass is you have to provide servers to customers which ran older OS versions that actually are available(have been for long time actually). Also still lacking support for 64bit platforms is definitely a problem. |
