Wire break on AM2 PT100

Sempei Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	I would like to know what happen's in case of wire break of the sensor on AM2 PT100.... Does it exist a wire break detection, in this case how can i manage this information. If not,which value is given in the LOGO ? Thank you

So you can set up a simple error/alarm by monitoring the min. and max temp. -After a real life test the wire break is a 177 celsius indication when grounding is less perfect and some statics. Oops-

Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, on my unit if I disconnect the wire from the PT100 the value of the AI is 0. Even in the manual there is no wire brake detection noted.

My hardware (version 6) behaves as follows: when i disconnect IC, AI is zero (-50C) when i disconnect M-, AI is 907 (177C) when i disconnect M+, AI increases gradually to 1000. The behaviour in this case is quite uncertain. Some times AI increases fast, sometimes increases very slow. During the test, the sensor temperature was 26C.

My test wash done just before my answer, i am working on a project with a pt100 testing the cooling from a diesel generator. There i also need a alarm indication and the subject made me test it. i will test real life whitin the week in generator plus proper grounding to see again.

I will at a alarm in my application for this value it is easy for me. but i think any application above 160 degree must work whitout alarm indication. unless the application is grounded well and static free. ( like my workdesk ) Greetings From Greece

I tried to use the method described in the attached document, downloaded from here, to detect PT100 wire break with an AM2 RTD card. I downloaded the example on actual hardware but what happens is that there is no difference between short circuit or wire break. In both short & wire break, the card outputs 0 (raw) or -500 (scaled). Is it possible that the official example is wrong, or I am missing something. The only diffirence between the example and the hardware, is that my LOGO! is FS04.
