Hi, Well you have two possibilites: Profibus or Ethernet. Profibus will let you use devices in range up to 15 meters, so not good for you. In the case of ethernet everything seems more easy. Only if your CPU has no integrated Ethernet, you need to install communication module as well as wireless equipment. You can use it from Siemens (check full product range) or you can use from 3rd party and it should work I think (I mean wireless equipment). |

Hello Arwtip, Here I would suggest to go with a solution based on Ethernet. This isince there is more bandwidth available and the Wireless LAN Protocol is fully compatible with ethernet without the need for special tricks and propriaty solutions. Since it's an industrial application I would go with Industrial Wireless LAN. Siemens offers here the SCALANCE products. Depending on the location you could us the SCALANCE W788-1PRO (indoor, no cabinet) which is usefull by regular connection or the SCALANCE W788-1RR which is useful if you need realtime connectivity with for example Profinet. For in cabinet you could also consider the SCALANCE W784-1/W784-1RR. If the environment is full of steel (reflections) I would suggest to also have a look at the new SCALANCE W788-1 RJ45 (in cabinet) or the SCALANCE W788-1 M12 which both use 802.11n. And don't forget the antennas. There for I would suggest to have a detailed look at the online catalog: Chapter 8: Wireless Communication There you will also find some very useful standard setup of WLAN Components. |
