Wireless Link between two SCALANCE W788-2PRO modules

Luigi_04 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hello, I am trying to establish wireless communication between a S7-400 CPU (in the plant) and an S7-300 CPU (outside on a crane). Both CPU's have mutliple devices on their networks connected over wired ethernet and all devices are on the same subnet (192.24.4.XXX). I have a SCALANCE W788-2PRO connected on each network and have configured them to the best of my ability. If I connect my laptop on the plant side, I cannot ping any devices on the crane side and vise versa. Should I be able to ping all devices? From what I have read, once they are setup properly, the wireless link will appear to the user like a wired connection (i.e. I should be able to ping everything). I am assuming I have not configured the two SCALANCE devices properly. They both share the same SSID (even though they don't have to) and the same wireless mode (802.11 g). I'm not sure what else I have to do. At no point did I go through any configuration related to the two SCALANCE devices recongnizing each other. I am new to Siemens wireless and need help. In your case, I think, the best solution would be (if you want to be able to access everything) to use a WDS. Luigi_04 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Thanks J_Bell! I setup a WDS connection with both SCALANCE modules as access points and it worked. Since there are two WLAN's with the -2PROs, I setup a WDS connection over each WLAN. One is on channel 5 and the other is on channel 11. I only have a good link on channel 11. Does it automatically select the healthiest channel or should I have a green link on both. The antenna for channel 5 is hidden at the moment so that could be the reason. I am trying to setup both WLAN's because the crane will swing, exposing one antenna while hidding the other. I want to make sure I always have at least one healthy connection. Any thoughts? Luigi

If you have setup a WDS did you have RSTP enabloed and a rootbridge in your network? I guess not. Then I would suggest to delete one of the 2 WDS connections. Because otherwise you create a loop on your Wireless part which could/will cause an unstable network. To use the 2 wireless links on the same devices I would suggest to use the Redundancy solution which is available in the (I guess) iFeatures tab in the Web Based Management. It's not so difficult to setup. The only thing you need to be aware of is that you either use the SysName of the device or the MAC Addresses from the Wireless Interfaces of the devices. These MAC-Addresses can only be found in the Web Based Management of the device since the MAC-Address on the devices represent the MAC-Address of the Wired innterface.
