Without MMc Is it possible to run a plant

The MMC acts as the Load Memory for the CPU, and the PLC program must be downloaded to an MMCfor the PLC to function. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 9/16/2024 Posts: 12282 Rating: (2684)	Hello RNK; Yes, the older versions of the S7-300CPUs had some load memory integrated: see the attached document, showing the technical specs of the CPU 312IFM. However, even the S7-400 CPUs of that era required a RAM or EPROM card as a supplemental Load Memory, as the integrated memory was too low to run anything but a very basic program (for test purposes, maybe). So you must go by the MLFB of the CPU to make sure. One trick: if the S7-300 PLC has a battery in the CPU module, near the integrated communication interfaces, it probably is an older model that does not accept a MMC in its memory socket. On newer CPUs the MMC acts retains the data on power down, and there is no battery to support retentivity of the data. New S7-300 with MMC (Micro Memory Card). Best regards. H-H

If you are really meant "MMC" in your question, then the answer is: No. because the new S7-300 CPUs can not run without MMC. But if youwould like to know if the S7-300 CPUs can work without"Memory Card", then the answer is: yes, may be some CPUs can work without memory cards. Internal Flash Memory CPUs or IFM CPUs doesn't have memory card bay. But note that these CPUs "CPU312IFM" and "CPU314IFM" are phased out products. Please check: Product Phase-Out for SIMATIC S7-300 CPU 312IFM and 314IFM And as dchartier mentioned, Old S7-300 CPUs can work without memory card, but you have to use battery in this case. But these CPUs are phased out. and also the memory cards are phased out. To see the complete list of these MC and MMC as well, please have a look on the last two tables of this link : Which memory cards can you use with a S7-300 CPU? All new S7-300CPUs now,I mean all CPUs you can order now can not work without MMC. *please note that the this link is from year 2002.* And when you open the CA01 catalog, in the overview of any CPU, it is stated clearlly : SIMATIC Micro Memory Card required for operation of CPU. see attachment please.
