Working with big User Archives

Mr. Q-Bridge Advanced Member Joined: 12/13/2005 Last visit: 12/4/2024 Posts: 63 Rating: (3)	Hello, I'm using in my WinCC-project (V6.0 SP3 HF2) a lot of User Archives. The inserting/updating/deleting happens with VB-scripts (SQL-commands). But now I'm strungling with the limit of those User Archives (product of records * columms < 320.000). So that's why I'm thinking to make my own SQL-database. But I don't know how to show the contents of the tables in a picture in WinCC. With the User Archives I usethe"User-Archive-Control". Especially for connecting to the taglogging and alarmlogging data. The only thing I want to do is read and write an external database (SQL Server). Also view the contents in a picture in WinCC. I was reading in order threads were I found that it is possible to include an external database viewer in a WinCC-picture (as an OCX). Will such an OCX also function in a webnavigatorpicture? Mr. Q-Bridge.

Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi connecty pack is providing an interface to other databases and to your WinCC database (in both directions). Using non-Siemens ActiveX/OCX is in principle possible, but upto the user/you to ensure, that these OCX will not harm your performance, they certainly are NOT PCS7 systemtested. http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/9927882 Check your WinCC online help for "web navigator ocx" nemo

The User Archives ultimately creates tables within SQL Server. 320k rows is nothing to SQL Server and therefore should be nothing to User Archives. With this in mind, can you confirm that you have configured an index for your user archive ? As you know, this can vastly improve read performance for a database table. You can set the index on the ua properties in the UA Editor. Secondly, if you were to go the route of programming your own solution - then yes you can use any OCX available. I have done this a few times using the MS ADO DataControl and MS DB Grid. It's basically the same principle you use to display database data in VB or a web page. Find a grid control (there's lots on the web) and program it in WinCC using VBS scripts. However WebNavigator compatibility cannot be guaranteed. It may work, it may not. Because it has never been tested, the question cannot be answered. I have tested simple grid controls using WebNavigator in an Intranet environment and it worked fine but I have never done it via a routed connectionor via the Internet. Also I needed to manually copy and register the controls on the web navigator clients pc's. I hope this answers your questions somewhat. Salma

When testing it in WINCC then it works. Later I published the screens with the webnavigator. Than I noticed that the control doesn't work in the webpage. Even not on the same computer as the Webnavigator-server and winCC-project. Did you made also test with that Grid? When I try to use the OCX in the grafic designer I need to unregister myVBocx.OCX an also the GRID32.OCX. Then save the picture. Then register myVBocx.ocx. Then I can insert the OCX. When I try to insert it a second time. I get an errormessage "loadingof control failed" What could cause that problem? Thanks already.

Instead I have used the following in the past - some on WebNav but I cannot remember which ones ! MSDATAGRD.OCX - Microsoft DataGrid Control 6.0 MSFLXGRD.OCX - Microsoft FlexGrid Control 6.0 MSHFLXGRD.OCX - Microsoft Hierarchical FlexGrid Control 6.0 Could you try one of the following and test. fyi, the only one that works on my machine without VB installed is the Microsoft Hierarchical FlexGrid Control.
