Write to DB depending on a parameter(DB as parameter)

Hello Experts,

I made some code to write information into a array in a DB.

First data goes into [0] second data into [1] etc. But I have to do this more than just one time and to multiple DB’s.

So I thought maybe I could make a FB of this code and make an input on de FB so I could give the DB and the array to write to as a parameter.

So I make a FB: write_to_db; with an input DB and Array. So the multiple references to this Db and Array changing automatically to the DB and Array that are connected to the input. So I don’t have to change every this reference by hand, because there around 20 references and I have to do that multiple times.

So when I need to write to multiple DB’s I can just copy the FB; write_to_db and give it another DB input or array input.

In the picture I uploaded you can see a part of the code so you can see a few references I’m talking about.(references are in Dutch so probably not readable for you, but you will understand what I mean.)

So my question is it possible to give a DB and a Array in the DB as a parameter to the FB, and perhaps somebody knows how to do this?

I hope someone could help me with this problem.

What you want to do in LAD is more difficult and error prone than using SCL. A few lines of SCL code and it is done.

In LAD, you have to set up a loop that does not loop beyond the bounds of your array nor forever and crash your plc on watchdog.

If I loop in LAD, the odds of me crashing the plc is much higher and I am very careful and know it is harder to do right.

I am pretty sure there are code snippets for the SCL version of what you want in these same forums. SCL is a very simple language to learn, especially if you have ever programmed any in any computer language like C, C++, Visual Basic, Java (and the list goes on).

I personally have a preference for LAD but some problems naturally fit being solved in SCL. I would say this is one of them.

okay tnx for the information, i'm going to write it in SCL, but i have a question:

maybe its a dum question but, I want to add a number (example 1, 2 or 3) to a variable uint.

in lad I can take an ADD block but i don't have that in SCL code, So I tried Variable = Variable+1, Variable + 1 etc. but it is an unknown instruction...

How do I add a number to a variable?

I’m trying real hard but I can’t get it work,

As I already told I want to make a function so I can write data from into a datablock.

It’s like this: I’ve got a few conveyors and the products are moving over these conveyors. My product is a struct with some data.

For example product 1 is detected by a sensor then I need to write that product to the DB of conveyorX. The first product goes into the array of struct [0] and the second goes into [1] etc.

I want to make one FC or FB so I can use this later again, because first I have to write the product to conveyerA and later to conveyorB etc.

I created one DB with all conveyors. The conveyors are a struct, the conveyors have some data like speed etc. and an Array of struct(the products on that conveyor)

(they DB’s are all exactly the same)

So when I look at the FC or FB there are some things that need to be variable:

For example an if function:

IF #I_DB_Des.I_Conveyor.Product[#I_DB_Des.I_Conveyor.ProductNR_cnt].Write_Enable = true THEN

#I_DB_Des.I_Conveyor: they need to change because first I have to write to ConveyorA and next time to ConveyorB, so the first time I have to check Write_Enable in ConveryorA and second time in ConveyorB.

#I_DB_Des = the DB as an input(in my case Conveyor_DB, always the same because I made 1 Db with all Conveyors)

I_Conveyor = the Conveyor(first A then B)

How can I give these as a variable to the FC or FB?

Okay, I got a few more conveyors but that doesn’t really matter because when you make something good you can use it again, that’s why I want to handle the struct in the conveyor DB like a variable.

I got something like this:

Conveyor 1 has product 6 and 7, conveyor 4 product 4 and 5 etc.

When P6(product 6) is being transferred to conveyor 4 the data from P6(struct array) needs to be transferred from conveyor 1 to conveyor 4.

So every Conveyer got all the active products of its own conveyor, so perhaps I could check which product are in conveyor 4. So your guess was very good!

Now I want to make a function that transfers the data of the transferred product to the other conveyor into the next free Product[ ] segment. Example:

Conveyer 4 has already 2 products: So Product[0], Product[1] are not available(write_enable = false).

So it checks [0], [1] and then at [2] write_enable = true so I need to write product 6 from

Conveyor_1.Product[x] to Conveyor_4.Product[2].

A little moment later I need to do the same thing for Product 4 but then from

Conveyor.Product[x] to Conveyor.Product[y].

How I determine x and y is another issue.

This is what I want to make(maybe not possible):

A FC or FB with

in/output: where I could connect the struct where I want to write to.

Input: to connect the product struct that I want to write(Product[x], Product[y].

Inputs: Some other inputs for extra update functions

Input: to connect the trigger when to write

Every conveyor transportation get his own FC or FB to do this transfer. So Conveyor 1 gets a function for the transportation from 1 to 2 and one for 1 to 4.

Frist one: in/out = “ ConveyorsDB.Conveyor_2” (connected struct = Conveyor_2)

Second one: in/out = “ ConvyorsDB.Conveyor_4” (connected struct = Conveyor_4)
