Solution for S5 and S7 CPU commnication

Is it possible to directly use the MPI port for connection, or aCP340 moduleneed tobe used? and which kind of protocol or settings should be configured on both sides. thanks! Best regards Bruce

Bruce0919 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi, existing project is based on fourS5 095U (one masterand three slaves), using FB252 & FB253 for data exchange. as the master S5 095U and it's panel TP15 are broken, now i would like to replace it by S7300 CPU. and do not change the configuration of three slaves. fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 11/19/2024 Posts: 3027 Rating: (1057)	Hello Bruce0919 your S5-95U (6ES5 095-8MB02) supports FDL protocol which allows you to link it to an S7. What you need is a CP342-5 in the S7 and you'll find configuration examples at Where can you find sample programs and documentation for communication from SIMATIC S5 modules to SIMATIC S7 modules by way of PROFIBUS using the FDL protocol? I suggest you also grab a copy of the SINEC L2 Interface of the S5-95U Programmable Controller as a reference. I hope this helps

Bruce0919 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi Fritz, it will changetoo bigto existing system using profibus network. i donot want to see. the best way i hope is only replace the master S5 095U and keep remain other three S5-095U(slaves)with same network. suppose a CP340 (Order No. 6ES7 340-1CH02-0AE0, support RS422/485) can added to a S7300 system, and connect directly tothese three slaves (Port Sinec L2), and using FB2 & FB3 for data exchange. i am not sure if it's working. thanks & Best regards Bruce

You would already have SINEC L2 cable in place wouldn't you? If so, it may not look like new (purple) Profibus DP cable, but you'll find that it will most likely do the job (certainly at lower baud rates). No problems, as said before, your S5-95U (6ES5 095-8MB02) support FDL protocol which allows you to link themto an S7. Bruce0919 suppose a CP340 (Order No. 6ES7 340-1CH02-0AE0, support RS422/485) can added to a S7300 system, and connect directly tothese three slaves (Port Sinec L2), and using FB2 & FB3 for data exchange. CP340 is for all sorts of serial comms, butdoes NOT support the "Profibus" protocols that the onboard interface of your S5-95U (6ES5 095-8MB02) supports. --> Go for the CP342-5 instead.
