MCU-PIT suddenly missing

MoonBeam Posts: 41 Rating: (0)	Greetings, After installing additional .GSD files to my SIMATIC Manager 5.4 SP4, it started to pop-up the massage that there is MCU-PIT software missing. Due to this problem I can't open a specific program which uses MCU 172A (I could normally open it before update). Where could this software go? What should this library look like? BR, Mitja

dchartier Grandmaster Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/16/2024 Posts: 12294 Rating: (2691)	Hello Moonbeam; If your program was built based on the use of this positionning software and your present computer does not have the software package installed (and properly licensed) you will not be able to open the dedicated functions created for the application on this new computer. I would suggest you contact the person(s) who developped the project and ask them for the required licenses.Since this softwarehas beendiscontinued for at least 5 years, you might have trouble locating it through official Siemens channels. Here is some information I was able to retrieve on the subject: Manual for MCU-PIT (SIMODRIVE 611Single-Axis Positioning Control MCU 172A) http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/22073867 MCU is the abbreviation for Motion Control Unit. PIT stands for Parameterizing and Commissioning Tool. In other words, the MCU-PIT software package can be used for the complete parameterizing and commissioning of the single-axis positioning control MCU 172A. Scope of application: The MCU-PIT software serves to parameterize and commission the single-axispositioning control MCU 172A from the SIMODRIVE 611 family. It supports the simple programming and planning of data blocks. The software furthermore assists you during commissioning and servicing. MCU-PIT comprises two mutually complementary applications: PIT-EDIT and PIT-CONTROL. The MCU-PIT software also includes an online help system in the form of a paperless documentation SYSDOK-MCU. MoonBeam Posts: 41 Rating: (0)	Dear Daniel, I understand what are you trying to say...This is not a new machine, it is an old project, we have this machine for aprox. 3 years and we got it old, so I can't contact the author... The problem is: one hour before .GSD files were updated this project (using MCU 172A) worked on my computer normally. So it means the MCU-PIT software was allready installed in the Step 7 Manager 5.4 SP4 package (but without additional installation). One of my colleages has one ordinary version of Step 7 Manager 5.4 SP4 (whitout any additional software) installed on his personal computer, and this software works normally on his private PC. Does this mean the MCU-PIT has to be included in the Simatic Manager 5.4 SP4 installation, because there in no other way I could explain this behaviour. If i try to reinstall or completley uninstall and fresh install again opening of this project fails. I remember from the past, we had no problems opening this project and also make a lot of modifications on this machine, but we never purchase MCU-PIT software, becouse there was no need; It was always working... Can anybody explain me this? Is there any Simatic Manager expert here on forum? BR, Mitja

I have just updated my Windows to earlier date, before .GSD files update, and still no sucess. Keep poping - up MCU-PIT missing... I am a little desprate now, since nobody knows the real cause of this... BR, Mitja

MoonBeam Posts: 41 Rating: (0)	Hi Hristo, Yes I'm in SP5 now. The only massage that it is popping up now is ''Modules which can not be displayed HW updates'' and under that MCU172A and CPU314. The important thing for me now is that I can see the PLC program blocks. The hardware configuration you can see now is on screenshot 2. There is obviously something wrong with hardware updates, so MCU-PIT gets missing. I am afraid to update my hardware now... Siemens experts should fix this problem...
