Hello zecas; S5 PLCs use a current-loop connection (TTY) for communications with a PC, so an ordinary serial converter will not work. See the following thread to look at a previous discussion on the subject, and a possible solution: /tf/WW/en/Posts/18124 Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hello dchartier, probably I didn´t explain very well the situation. As I said, I had the step-5 V 7.23 working in an old latop, with a com port (RS232). In this computer, the comunication was normal, (via converter RS232---> TTY). Wen I instaled the program, in a new computer,(with Windows Vista), the application runs, normaly, however, as I am one converter (RS232--->TTY), and the computer have not (COM port), I must use an converter USB--->RS 232, so I buyed one of the "ATEN", but it didn´t work. So, someone told me,it could better, buy a "PCMCIA card---> RS 232 converter", but the problem, was the same. In the step-5, I can choose the same "COM port, baud rate, stob bits etc."as the converter, but it don´t work. In the file S5@@@as we can see the values, for example to "COM 1", we have: I\O 03f8 IRQ 4. But in the new computer ,in device manager,"Pot COM 1"we have no I\O nether IRQ (probaly because it is a virtual port), I think it is the reason for no comunication, and I don´t knowwaht to do. Have you any idea? Thanks |

Hi, I had same issue. My PC do not have COM port as well, so i bought Belkin cable f5u103, and in Step5 made changes: File>Project>Set, Interface - AS511, Parameter - COM3. Worked as charm. |

Step 5 doesen`t support either Pcmcia cards or an usb to serial converter. An old pc with an integrated serielport or an expresscard works Kind regards Jonas |
