You are absolutely right, but this is our first (and hoping last) project with the canopen standard. Also I had no idea that it was so complicated, I had experience with profinet to profinet, ethernet, modbus and profibus so I tought that was easy like those or at least more intuitive to implement.. Also our local dealer for Siemens (and, as he said, even Siemens Italy) can't help me because they don't know how it works (since it is not one of their protocol.. absurd situation). Anyway to do some bench tests I found this from HMS (it is already one of our suppliers) and another one from amazon Italy. https://www.amazon.it/s?k=usb+can+open&__mk_it_IT=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&ref=nb_sb_noss Price a part, do you think that even the cheapest amazon can work for me? Euromap requires can 2.0A About your last point (update), it was an option I had already consider, I have an inverter from Nidec and some ESP32 that can work with canopen. Last thing, which software do you use to configure this devices? something proprietary or there are some opensource alternatives? |

Hello,
IXXAT's V2 adapter is that my mentioned from my this description but I don't have it: HMS have typical USB-CAN adapter (v2 as expected generally with their SW and products) they supported all about that products generally but you need be careful here. As I said, it is also depended to SW used for configuration and diagnostic of network. HMS/ANYBUS/IXXAT use for their products specific SW for cfg and diagnostic and here you can't use other cheap USB-CAN adapter You are absolutely right, but this is our first (and hoping last) project with the canopen standard. Also I had no idea that it was so complicated, I had experience with profinet to profinet, ethernet, modbus and profibus so I tought that was easy like those or at least more intuitive to implement. Look, I can't imagine this protocol generaly to be not complicated in case of its very big reliability and functionality as is in automotive area. Speed and safety first and good diagnostic. Really you must accept that with so many possibilities with cfg, functionality and diagnostic. No one will ask you if you like or don't like this system. it is builded for specific areas of controls and does its job perfectly without any doubts. It is simply one good one compared to typical Profibus, Profinet and Modbus what are very good and also mostly used but we can say for sure that not aplicable in some environment with specific needs. On other side I like this base CAN with that more overlay-ed protocols due really fantastic idea of functionality and diagnostic, reliability.
