In general, you want interrupt blocks to use as little time as possible. Some things will not work, like timers, since they are not called during normal scans. You can put the logic in there. It will simply frustrate you when it does not work. Think put the absolute minimum code in the interrupt block and try to trigger actions to happen during the normal scan if possible and appropriate for your application. An example might be to detect a hardware state change, trigger an action like a fault handler that sets up certain actions, and then returns to the main plc logic to continue running. Another example might be for a high speed counter count reaches a specific level so you can issue a reset to keep it from going into overflow and losing your count.

I do not intend to hijack the post, but maybe my commentary brings something more to light. Adding some comment.. some instruction or some methods of reading data should be avoided. On other processors I work with before there were lists of execution time associated with each command and access type. @Others.. does anyone know if such a execution time list is available for the S7-1200? I wish to add another question.. In my days working with the S7-300 / -400 it was recommended to use STL as programming language to better execution times. Is that kind of thing true for S7-1200? Does SCL have a better execution? Greetings. w
