A problem with the server/client model on WinCC6.0 SP2

Yazdanpanah Posts: 14 Rating: (0)	I have stablished a server/clientrelation betweentwo WinCC6.0 SP2 on Windows XP Professional + SP2 machines and it works. But theproblem is that when Iswap theserverand client machines, thenew client (previous server) does not recognize the other machine (previous client) as a server while opening the project. It is not predictable which machine can be the server. I meanit will be revealed just by test! I tested this issuewith both "multi-user project"and "client project" settings but it makes no difference. I have tested this issue on Windows 2000 Professional + SP4 machines, but problem is the same. I hadencountered the sameproblem with WinCC6.0 SP1, butI had not encountered such problem with WinCC 5.1 SP1 machines on Windows 2000 Professional. What is your comment or suggestion?

Salma Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	It sounds to me like your networking isn't set up correctly for WinCC to work. Things to check are: · Can you ping on both computer name and ip address from both machines? · Can you browse the remote machine via Network Neighbourhood and connect to the project share? · Is the SIMATIC Shell folder in Windows Explorer correctly displaying your network and projects? · Have the Windows users on both machines been assigned passwords? Windows will disable networking if the users password is blank. · Is the hosts file correctly configured on both machines? · Are the Windows users on both machines a member of the SIMATIC HMI group I am sure there are other things to check but these are a good place to start. Please go through the list and let us know what you find. Regards, Salma

I try to explain the problem more clearly: Suppose two machines, A and B on them, I have installed Windows XP and WinCC6.0. Also suppose the network has been setup properly and both machines can see each other without any problem. When I setup, machine A as the server and machine B as the client ("multi-user project" or "client project"), I can open and run the project from machine B (the client) without any error and everything is OK. Now, I change the setup so that the machine A would be the client, and machine B would be the server. In such new arrangement, when I open the project from the new client (machine A), the error message "The configured server is not available" is appeared, that says the client has not recognized the other machine as the WinCC 6.0 server. 2) I had tested it with WinCC6.0 SP1 on Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Professional + SP1 and Windows 2000 + SP4. On all these platforms, WinCC6.0 SP1 shows the same problem with the client/server relation. I have these service packs for WinCC6.0: SP1, SP2, SP3 I have these service packs for Windows XP Professional: SP1, SP2 I have these service packs for Windows 2000 Professional: SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4 Would you please tell me which SP of WinCC6.0 should I use on which SP of XP (or 2000) to overcome the client/server problem as I talked about? As I toldseveral times I have done clinet/server under WinCC5.1 without any problem. It seems you do not understand what my problem is. Please stop replying it.

I appreciate that your networking is working correctly but WinCC V6 has some very specific requirements, such as TCP/IP and not just NETBIOS set correctly, Simatic Shell folder, etc. Theabove check list is a good place to start investigatingwhen a client / server system is not working. I have set up client / server systems many times and often switched the client and server PCs so I understand exactly what you are trying to do.

You gave this error message. Nemo just replied to that error message. 9 out of ten times (or even 99 out of 100) the computername is wrongfully entered when this error message is being displayed. When does this error message exactly appear? Just trying to help here, no need to get angry [:D]
