Connecting S7-200 to S5?

marcsinclair Posts: 49 Rating: (5)	Hi, Yes, I've done it, or very similar, I set up communication between S5-90u, S5-100 and S7-200. It does depend very much on how much data you want to exchange and what sort of update speed you want. With digital outputs, you can perhaps achieve 10 Baud with a 'bit wiggle' I would use the S7-200 as the clock, so using two outputs and one input, on the S5 use two inputs and one output. The beauty is, there is nothing to buy, no licences just a little time and some cable.

JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (45)	Easiest way is using profibus-DP. In 115U you need to use IM308C as DP master and EM277 in S7-200 as DP slave.

darkbits Posts: 31 Rating: (0)	The problem, that scares me, is that the IM308C is an old module that only works with DPV0 (at least that's what I know) and the EM277 is a new one, that (this is what I'm not totally sure) "probably" works with DPV1, so compatibility could not be secured. Is this right? or wrong?.....please tell me!

The DPV1 extensions only apply to the acyclic portion of the communication exchanges; all cyclic exchanges are exactly the same on allversions of Profibus-DP. You will find detailed infrormation on all versions of Profibus-DP on the Profibus.com site, in the technology folders. All you need to do is insert the gsd file for the S7-200 EM277 in the Com Profibus file of the IM 308C master, configure the data size used for the exchanges in the S7-200 slave, select a V-memoryoffset for the S7-200 program location of the dProfibus-DP data exchanges, and finally loadthe modified configuration to the master. Anyway just for knowing, you say there is no problem using a DPV0 as master and a DPV1 as slave, but what if the configuration is inverse? Works anyway? Just wondering...ThaNKs.

You will not be allowed to setup DPV1 exchanges with this slave anyway, its gsd file will tell the master itonly accepts DPV0 setups.
