CPU Fault on EM277 Module

GRousseau Posts: 3 Rating: (1)	We are currently using a CPU 244 with a EM277 Profibus module. We are trying to get our Profibus communication working but we get a CPU Fault on the EM277 module. The Power LED is normaly solid green and every 20-30 seconds or so, we are getting a solid red on the CPU Fault LED. We tried two other EM277 module with the same result. The address dials are properly configured with the right address to be used on the Profibus network. Of course, so far we are not able to see that node on the Profibus network through Profitrace. We are just starting with Siemens so we don't have a lot of expertize available inhouse and our chinese contractor seems to have no clue. My guess would be that something is not configured properly in the CPU 244. All your suggestions are going to be welcome!.

Arunakat1 Posts: 217 Rating: (52)	Dear GRousseau, To my knowledge you can use S7 200 onlyas a profibus slave. Butto make a profibus network you have to use a profi bus master (like S7 300 DP CPU, Profi bus CP. etc). I have no clue weather you are using a S7 300 (Profibus master). If you are using S7 300 DPCPU or Profi bus CP then you have to configer hardware using GSD files. I hope this will help you.

GRousseau Posts: 3 Rating: (1)	Thank you all for your answers. Yes, we are using that unit (CPU 244 + EM277) as a slave unit. The main issue is that we are getting the CPU Fault solid red LED even before we connect the Profibus cable, so I guess that we are not even at the stage of having a network configuration conflict or else. We properly followed the procedure to set the DP address with the dials and restarted the power supply. My main question is in fact, except for the memory allocation in the CPU 244 for the Profibus communication, is there any other configuration (externaly or internaly through the configuration software) that we need to do? Could this CPU Fault error bne caused by a bad or missing configuration in the CPU 244 unit or could it be caused by a real hardware error on the CPU 244? (for the record, we don't have any error showing up on the CPU 244 unit itself). Best regards, Guy

No, in S7-200 you just have to read memory or write to memory. What is the MLFB of CPU? Is it a CPU 244 or do you mean CPU 224 Best regards, Wizard

GRousseau Posts: 3 Rating: (1)	Yes, my mistake, it's a CPU 224. We finally resolved the issue. The contractor had installed the CPU on a different power circuit and was always power cycling only the EM277 module... I recycled the power on the CPU and the problem went away. Thanks to all for your answers.
