Backup / Restore question

Hi all,

I use the advanced version of IOT2050 with inbuilt 16GByte eMMC memory.

I successfully managed to compile the example image and put it to a microSD card and boot from 
there (automatically).
I also managed to transfer the compiled image via sftp to the booted IOT and from there,
using the dd command, to the internal memory.

After reboot everything went smoothly and I could fiddle around with the distro.
Now it is time to try other things. But I'd like to save my work.

I read that one should not dd from a running system to a backup medium.

So I need to boot from an external medium to have the eMMC unmounted and can save my work, right?

But when I put in my microSD containing the original image that won't work. It always uses the eMMC.

There is no bios to determine the boot order. 

So, how do I force boot from a removable device like usb or microSD?

Note to self:

Boot the IOT2050 and login.

fw_setenv boot_targets  <usb0 usb1 mmc0 mmc1>.

mmc0 is the SD card, mmc1 is the eMMc.

fw_printenv boot_targets

check the current boot order.

I do not have that breakout cable nor do I like the thought of having to use one.

Answer to self:

Does not work.

Tells me: 

"Cannot parse config file /etc/fw_env.config : No such file or directory"
Error: Environment not initialized.

on trying to set the environment variables.

Fixed by https://github.com/siemens/meta-iot2050/commit/191b0703b1a5b5bc48194038530787264c7e03fc - I suspect your image is older.

Also note that mmc0 is the eMMC on the Advance board, mmc1 is the SD card. On the Basic, mmc0 is the SD card (as there is no eMMC).

 are you sure about that? 
With the prototypes of the Advanced board SD card is mmc0 and eMMc is mmc1.

Haven't checked that with release board.

Yes, I mean: no, I was wrong. Sorry, too many indirections (it's in that order in hardware, we flip it so that the SD card is always mmc0).

Hi,
i tried the solution from github but still the same error message.
When booting there is also no chance to boot from another device like the microSD card or a USB-Stick. I installed the Example Image on both.
How can i check if its even seen by the IOT?

Is there an option to do the Initial System Setup again? like a factory reset?
