can i use this function with any output as long it is a transistor?

No.

Only transistor outputs built-in on the CPU or added with a signal board. There are output addresses that offer faster pulse frequencies than others. Older CPU firmware versions have fixed outputs that can be used.

Hardware configuration needs to be set for it to make the CTRL_PWM instruction usable. The outputs that can be used are made available on the hardware configuration. The maximum pulse speed is also shown there on Step7 of version including & later than V13 SP1.

Sorry for not being clear.
Using outputs from the Signal Module (SM) expansion card is not possible.

Only built-in outputs or from Signal Board (SB) that can be activated in the hardware configuration for PWM/PTO function can be used.
